Been listening to the different renditions of Canto de Maria Clara sung by one of Rizal’s character in his novel in Noli Me Tangere. Strange in tone when compared to the whole of the novel, I gave a short commentary of that here. Here is a Tagalog rendition composed by Antonio Molina and sung by the Tres Rosas singers under Villar Recording Co. This particular song became famous during the turbulent 60s as the Philippines was struggling to keep up with the Asian competition amidst the exacerbating political turmoils and shifting loyalties among the Liberals and the Nacionalistas.
I’m imagining the guitar playing while on an open rice field under a mango tree. :D
